An urgent request...

We need a video camera or compact digital camera that will allow decent videos to be taken, as the last one donated to us has died.

If you have one (or know someone who does) that you would like to put to good use, do contact us at health.care.to.villagers@gmail.com

Thank you!

H C T V - May 2011

While the rest of country was enjoying the long weekend due to Labour Day on Sunday, we were blessed with another opportunity to visit the village. Although it had rained a few days before, we had good weather on Sunday until we were ready to leave for home.

Other than our regulars sponsors for rations, this time the villagers were blessed with Goat's milk by a generous donor who chose to remain anonymous. Milk is not something the villagers are used to, and we were a little concerned about how they would respond to it. Both adults and children enjoyed it tremendously and came back for a second and even third helping, and just like 5 loaves and 2 fish, the milk kept multiplying until they were all filled and we had more to spare.

We have learnt from this and previous experience that no matter how challenging or impossible things may seem at times, we just have to be faithful with whatever little we have, and leave it all in the hands of the One who is able to to make all things possible.
Thank you for your prayers and support. Together, we can make a difference. God bless.

H C T V - Apr 2011

This trip started much earlier than usual as we had the team from Soul Kitchen, Australia down and they sponsored a meal for the entire village right after the health clinic. Cooking started at New Manna in Penang at 3 am and we left at 6 am only to return to the island at 7 pm. It was a very long but exciting day for us.

Thank you very much for all your support and prayers in making this trip possible.

H C T V - March 2011

Our trip in March was very exciting and we would like to thank all those who have been a part of this project, it's your prayers and support in cash & kind that make it possible for us to do what we do.

On our journey into the jungle, we had the very rare opportunity of seeing a herd of wild buffaloes - looking at the picture, it's as if they too were quite amused to see us...:)

The villagers were generally in good health, and we had 2 new babies registered with us on this trip.
Although we are not able to mention and thank each of you personally here, we are very grateful for the contribution of rice, breastmilk, milk and also contributions in cash that allowed us to get additional things needed for the trip. Thank you & God bless you!

H C T V - February 2011

Due to the Chinese New Year celebrations we were unable to hold our usual clinic, but we still made a trip and distributed food rations while spending some time talking to the villagers.

It was quite a relaxed trip as we got to spend time catching up on the happenings in the village. The level of deforestation is quite worrying and with an increasing number of timber lorries going in, the roads are quite bad although manageable with a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Landslides and strong winds are now a regular affair there, although it was very rare few years ago. While they are concerned about their safety and livelihood, there's nothing much that can be done for now.

In your kindness, please keep them in prayer so they will soon be able to enjoy what they truly deserve. Although they do not have a voice, they have their rights. Thank you.

January 2011 - Presenting Irman!

We had 2 trips in January alone - the first was our usual health trip, and the second was to welcome a new baby, Irman who is the younger brother of Irfan who returned to the Lord on the 20th January 2010.

By God's grace Irman was delivered on the 1st of Jannuary 2011, a great start to a new year. He's a healthy baby & both he and his mum are doing well. Thank you for your prayers and support. Here are some pictures of Irman.

H C T V - November 2010

Generally, the villagers seem to be in good health with no new problems except for skin problems. The lack of clean water supply is still a major issue and until this basic need is met, it looks like we will continue to face such cases.

Food rations were given out as usual, but we are feeling the pinch with rising food prices - buying rations for one family with the increased prices is one thing, buying for 40 families is another story altogether. This time we were blessed with a donation of chocolate milk Reliv Now for Kids.

If you would like to help feed the villagers (not what's expired and unedible, but sharing what you have), please let us know. Since there is no electricity, we have to depend on canned food, e.g sardines, corned beef, etc. They are lacking protein in their diet and if you would like to contribute either in cash or kind, please drop us an email and we can talk further.

H C T V - September & October 2010

Apologies for not being able to upload pictures any earlier because we were having problems with our computers and not been able to do much work online.

Apart from the usual health checks and seeing to some of their other needs, we were also able to see some of the womenfolk at work, preparing handicrafts for sale. For more details about the handicrafts available, please visit our sister site: Asli Crafts.

Special thanks to Bob & Gaye, the Penang Office for Human Development (POHD), the Holy Family Intercessory Group (Canada), New Manna and our family and friends for their prayers and support.

H C T V - June 2010

Despite the heavy rain in Penang and the fact that it had been raining for 3 consecutive days in the village, we went in faith, and by God's grace , the skies cleared up till we got back. As it was the school holidays, we had more kids this time since those in boarding school had also returned to the village.

More than half of our patients (mainly kids) were having flu like symptoms and some adults were also down with diarhhea, which seems to be a common occurrence in the village. Skin problems among the kids is also quite rampant and we were shocked when informed that there's a village further in, where the entire community suffers from skin problems (this has apparently been going on for some time now). Arrangements are now being made for us to go in and assess the situation.

We are grateful to the Penang Office for Human Development (POHD), the Holy Family Intercessory Group (Canada), New Manna and our family and friends for their prayers and support.

H C T V - May 2010

By God’s grace, we had another productive trip on the 2nd of May. To make sure we could cope with the increase in patients, come out of the jungle before dark we left Penang at 5 am and were able to get back before night.

Other than a boy with a broken nose, there were no major problems although there were many who were down with the flu. Kids were generally fine and were happier up on a tree instead of being examined by the health team.

We are grateful to the Penang Office for Human Development (POHD),
the Holy Family Intercessory Group (Canada), and our
family and friends for their prayers and support.

H C T V - April 2010

We were greeted by lots of women and children waiting excitedly for our arrival. Due to the increase in patients we spent 4 hours just doing the routine checks with very little time left over for socialising.

From 15 families, we now have an average of 40 families to attend to each time. While we're glad that more are coming forth for check ups, it also means we have to increase our rations and medical supplies to make up for the increased number. We are grateful to the Penang Office for Human Development (POHD) and the Holy Family Intercessory Group and committed individuals for their support.

While the villagers are generally looking much better, we still have a few cases with bad skin conditions.

Apart from advising them on hygiene and basic health education, we are also working hard to raise funds to complete our water project as we know that not much can be achieved without access to clean water supply.

The cost of materials have gone up even more over the past few months, and the longer we wait the higher it goes. For more information on this project, please visit our sister site C W TV - Clean Water To Villagers.

You can make a difference!

H C T V - March 2010

We apologise for the delay in update. March was a very busy month for us as we were also out to promote handicrafts by the OA and also a little booklet on our ministry. We came up with a booklet called “Love Your Neighbour – Insights from the Village”, which is aimed at raising awareness and also fund raising for the ministry. The book is a light & easy read with many pictures from the village and Scriptures to reflect on.

If you'd like to obtain copies and help raise funds to provide clean drinking water to the villagers, please email us health.care.to.villagers@gmail.com

Our trip to the village this month was on the 2nd week as it marked the end of the mourning period for Irfan (the 3 year old who passed away in January), and the villagers wanted us present for the celebration. Travelling on a Saturday and returning the next day gave us more time with the villagers, but it also meant that we had to drive very carefully as there were many times when we had to make way for timber lorries much bigger than our vehicle.

The villagers were generally more cheerful this time as they had officially marked the end of their mourning period. Due to the extreme heat and lack of clean water, many were having flu like symptoms. Other than that, there were thankfully no serious cases.

Our next trip will be on the 3rd week of April instead of the 1st because Easter Sunday is on the 1st week of April.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

H C T V - February 2010

Our 2nd health check for the year was quite packed as the number of patients tend to increase with each visit. The villagers were not their usual selves as the village is still in mourning for little Irfan who returned to the Lord on 20th Jan 2010.
Other than the routine health checks and distribution of vitamins for adults and children, we were also able to de-worm the children under 12 years of age. It was quite a challenge getting them to the hall for de-worming, and some were even hiding up on a tree!

Seeing little children with sores just added to our frustration of still not being able to have clean water supplied to homes.
Our sister project "C W T V - Clean Water To Villagers" is far from complete.

Goodbye Irfan....till we meet again...

Our 2nd trip for the year was a very sad one as we had to bid farewell to our dear Irfan, who passed away suddenly on 20th Jan 2010. It was very painful especially for his parents, grandparents and those close to him, to have to say goodbye. Nevertheless, we thank God for the gift of Irfan and the three years we had him with us. We are grateful for the memories and the faith that he is now in heaven, free from pain and sickness. For all of you who have shown your concern for Irfan and his family, we thank you for your support.

We did not take any photos of the funeral as we would rather remember him as he lived. The memorial for Irfan will be on the 13th March 2010 and that will be the end of the mourning period for the village. Thank you for your prayers and support.

1st trip for 2010!

Happy New Year from H C T V!

We made our 1st trip this year on 3rd January, and although we had less of the team with us this time, it was a good trip.

Villagers who were fortunate enough to visit Penang last month actually put on weight (about 2-4 kilos each), but lost it over the last 2 weeks, and are back to their usual weight. Generally, they are looking much better and cleaner now, and thankfully no serious cases this time.

Here are some pictures from this trip:

For our next trip, we plan to de-worm the kids apart from the usual health checks & supply of vitamins. We noticed that many children are still walking around bare footed because they have no shoes or slippers. Just educating them on the need for cleanliness without providing them with footwear is of no use. We urgently need about 50 pairs of slippers of assorted sizes for kids aged 2-13 years.

Meet The Natives - Penang Style

We were recently blessed with the opportunity to bring a busload of villagers we work with, to visit Penang from 18th - 20th December 2009.

Because YOU made a difference in their lives!

Thanks to your support, we were able to start work on building a dam as the first phase of C W TV - bringing Clean Water To Villagers.

We're still not done...but would like to share with you what's been completed so far.

We're grateful for those of you who contributed towards this phase of the project and gave us the courage to take this bold step...although a lot more needs to be done.

"No life can move forward without taking giant steps. No progress can be recorded without a step of faith. Not until you step into it, you can never step out of it!" - Rev. Charles Gbenga A. Popson

OK..with your support we were able to take that step of faith...now, we need to move forward. We need to re-enforce the dam before water can be diverted into it & allowed to run through the pipes.

Once the water supply is working as planned, we will need to build a filter so that the villagers will have clean water for drinking. This will be followed by the construction of bathrooms and toilets. Yes...it's big - but not impossible...together, we can make a difference.

We are truly thankful for those who chose to make a difference. Your support is a testimony of Gods presence in our lives. Because of your generosity, we know He is alive and working in our ministry.

For those who didn't get an opportunity earlier, but would like to make a difference in the lives of these people, do email us: health.care.to.villagers@gmail.com

While we're not in a position to offer you tax exemptions, we can only assure you that your support can save lives. These people will never be able to repay you or give you any publicity for your contributions, but as John Wooden says: "You cant live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you".

May the good Lord who knows what you do even if it's not publicised, bless you for your generosity.

An urgent update

We have been informed that many of the villagers are unwell & being admitted to hospital. The closest health facility (about 2 hours away), is already full and villagers are being transferred to other districts that are still able to take in patients. The situation is very worrying & although we're scrambling to get the water project going by next week, it just doesn't seem fast enough.

We are grateful to those who contributed towards this project, but we're still way short of the targeted amount. Anyway, the need is so pressing that we will be going ahead in faith...believing that the much needed funds will arrive in time.

A wise man once said - there are 3 kinds of people in the world...

Those that MAKE Things Happen...

Those that WATCH Things Happen...

Those that SAY What Happened? "

Are You Willing To Make Things Happen?

We have been asked if we can issue tax exempt receipts for large amounts. We're sorry, but if you're familiar with Luke 20:25, we're encouraged to give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God's. There is no exemption from taxes, but if you represent an organisation or company that requires an official acknowledgement, we will gladly do so.

Remember this--a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need and plenty left over to share with others. (2 Cor 9:6-8 NLT)
